How a solar storm two years ago nearly caused a catastrophe on Earth

This article only begins to give a small indication for what lies ahead for mankind.

On July 23, 2012, the sun unleashed two massive clouds of plasma that barely missed a catastrophic encounter with the Earth’s atmosphere.  These plasma clouds, known as coronal mass ejections (CMEs), comprised a solar storm thought to be the most powerful in at least 150 years.

“If it had hit, we would still be picking up the pieces,” physicist Daniel Baker of the University of Colorado tells NASA.

Fortunately, the blast site of the CMEs was not directed at Earth.  Had this event occurred a week earlier when the point of eruption was Earth-facing, a potentially disastrous outcome would have unfolded.

A CME double whammy of this potency striking Earth would likely cripple satellite communications and could severely damage the power grid.  NASA offers this sobering assessment:

Analysts believe that a direct hit … could cause widespread power blackouts, disabling everything that plugs into a wall socket.  Most people wouldn’t even be able to flush their toilet because urban water supplies largely rely on electric pumps.

According to a study by the National Academy of Sciences, the total economic impact could exceed $2 trillion or 20 times greater than the costs of a Hurricane Katrina. Multi-ton transformers damaged by such a storm might take years to repair.

CWG’s Steve Tracton put it this way in his frightening overview of the risks of a severe solar storm: “The consequences could be devastating for commerce, transportation, agriculture and food stocks, fuel and water supplies, human health and medical facilities, national security, and daily life in general.”

It’s even more sobering when considering the conclusion of Steve Tracton’s 2013 article: Are we ready yet for potentially disastrous impacts of space weather? Tracton’s answer: “an unequivocal, if not surprising, no!”

Amnesty to ‘Punish’ Americans Against Illegal Immigration

Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) believes Hispanics should get amnesty and citizenship to punish Americans who are against illegal immigration.

After he told the La Raza conference in Los Angeles that President Barack Obama gave the Latino community a “down payment” with his temporary amnesty program that halted the deportations “of our people,” Gutierrez urged Hispanics to seek retribution at the ballot box.

“We need to raise our voices, make ourselves citizens, sign up to vote and punish those who speak ill and criminalize children who come to our border,” Gutierrez reportedly said in Spanish this weekend.

Gutierrez addressed the conference this weekend and also spoke on a panel. He said Obama assured him in a White House meeting last week with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus that he would use executive actions to be a “generous and broad” as he can to “stop the deportation of people each and every day,” as Breitbart News reported.

Billionaire Warns: Yellen Collapse ‘Will Be Unlike Any Other’

Another horrific stock market crash is coming, and the next bust will be “unlike any other” we have seen.

That’s the message from Jeremy Grantham, co-founder and chief investment strategist of GMO, a Boston-based firm with $117 billion in assets under management.

Grantham pulls no punches when assigning responsibility for the coming financial carnage. In a recent interview with The New York Times, he calls Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen “ignorant” and says the Federal Reserve all but killed the economic recovery.

Grimly, he adds, “We have never had this before. It’s going to be very painful for investors.”

Grantham isn’t the only one worried about a market collapse.

“We have no right to be surprised by a severe and imminent stock market crash,” explains Mark Spitznagel, a hedge fund manager who is notorious for his hugely profitable billion-dollar bet on the 2008 crisis. “In fact, we must absolutely expect it.”

Billion-dollar investor Warren Buffett is rumored to be preparing for a crash as well. The “Warren Buffett Indicator,” also known as the “Total-Market-Cap to GDP Ratio,” is breaching sell-alert status and a collapse may happen at any moment.

Downtown L.A. is now driest since rain records started in 1877 – LA Times

Rainy seasons over the last two years were the driest in downtown Los Angeles since record-keeping began in 1877, and forecasters now say the El Niño that had been predicted to bring some relief may not materialize.

According to the National Weather Service, the 2012 to 2014 rainy seasons — which are measured every July 1 to June 30 — only brought 11.93 inches of rainfall, which is 17.93 inches below normal.

“It’s the worst drought we probably have seen in our lifetime,” said Eric Boldt, warning coordination meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Oxnard.

In fact, four of the driest rainy seasons have occurred in the last seven years, said Bill Patzert, a climatologist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in La Cañada Flintridge.

The drought, he said, started in 1999 and worsened over time. The last three years, however, have been the worst.

Pat Buchanan: Mexican Gov’t ‘Colluding’ in ‘Balkanization’ of US

Patrick Buchanan told guest host Raymond Arroyo that the US “cease to be one nation and one people” and no longer be “recognizable” if it does not stop the Mexican government from “colluding” to send illegal immigrant children over the southern border.  He accused Mexican officials of encouraging the influx of unaccompanied minors, “the Mexican government is colluding in sending these kids into the United States” he charged.

He warned of demographic “Balkanization” and “breakup” if the flow of illegal immigrants isn’t halted. “If everyone has a right to come to the United States because of the conditions at home…you’re going to end up with no country, you’re going to end up with no America that is recognizable,” and added “you can see this happening in Europe right now” Buchanan said.

Buchanan also cautioned that allowing mass immigration from other areas of the world facing humanitarian crises, stating “I feel sorry for these people from the Middle East, sub-Saharan Africa, and the Arab countries of Africa, but if they come across into those numbers it’s going to be an Islamic continent.”
