How to Prove God Exists

This is a foundational subject and one that is necessary to grasp and understand before truly moving on in our Christian walk.

It requires faith (though less and less as we go on) but not a “blind faith”

If you were asked, could you prove that God exists?

I don’t know that most have tried. Perhaps they don’t think that they can. But it is actually easier than you think and we won’t really use the Bible to do so…that would be too easy!

We will also try to stay away from disproving evolution as much as possible. So let’s:

1 Thessalonians 5:21 Test all things; hold fast what is good.

Creation Requires a Creator

This is the basis of the first four demands that we will investigate and is the main proof that we have that there is a God.

The universe had a beginning – it did not come from nothing. “Nothing comes from nothing.”

If we were to say that something appeared out of thin air today we would be ridiculed.  For others to acknowledge this would be to defy physics and the natural world.  Yet this is what science would have us believe — that the universe came from nothing or that that there were laws in place before the beginning that regulated matter (where did they come from?).

When all the other arguments fail they will say that the universe was always here.  If this was true then it would all have been over already.  Science recognizes that the universe will not last forever. It is deteriorating – that is going the wrong direction for evolution’s sake. The sun will die in five billion years and the universe will end by then as well in one of many theorized ways:

  • Big Freeze or heat death
  • Big Rip
  • Big Crunch
  • Big Bounce

Either way, these alternate theories of the beginning of the universe is a departure from from the currently known and understood laws of nature.  Anything beyond this is speculation and must be taken with a great deal of faith.

Psalms 8:3-4  Psalms 19:1 Romans 1:18-22

There are none so blind as those that refuse to see the invisible

Corollary: Creation of Man requires a superior Creator

Here is what we know and have seen today: everything that is caused to exist is brought about by something superior to itself. When has anything created something superior to itself? On another plane of existence?

Yet some can look at humanity, the earth and universe and believe just that – there is no Creator.

Life Requires a Life-Giver

Life from life; life begets life;

Science has defined this as the law of biogenesis which states that life can only come from life.  Even though some will state that this is not true, there is no concrete evidence of natural Abiogenesis – life from inorganic or inanimate substances.

Man has not produced any sustainable life from nothing. The talk surrounding these subjects is theoretically!!! Don’t be fooled or put off by these subjects.  If you get to the bottom of it they begin with life and try to alter it by splicing genes or starting off with yeast, etc.  But there is no self sustaining life.

After all their trying and failing to create life from nothing, they are willing to say that this happened on its own – they take it on great faith.

If they could create a human body…and they are so far away from that, there is still an insurmountable gulf to be crossed. (Genesis 2:7, Job 32:8, 1 Corinthians 2:11 this is why we differ from the animal world)

We are not just a collection of chemicals, elements and neuron path ways!

Laws Require a Lawgiver

Laws of science were intact from as far back as they can figure and they are still intact — they are the same everywhere. If it weren’t so then there would be no universe.

So, why did the many scientific laws and fundamental constants that sustain the universe come about as they did?

Science will tell you that something can come from nothing PROVIDED that there were the laws of nature already there (which is something!). As we mentioned before, some will even say these laws came before the creation of the universe.

To sum it up, these laws of nature that had to exist before the universe began are non-physical forces that act on the physical thus creating the universe (that were not there before) — meaning they predate the universe.

Tell me what that describes:

  • Existed before the physical creation
  • Non-physical
  • Interacts with the physical in a way to create the universe

This sounds exactly like God! This all points to and demands an intelligent Lawgiver (James 4:12, Isaiah 33:22).

Design Requires a Designer

When we see a composition, patterns and forms (in a drawing, dress, cake etc) we immediately come to the conclusion that it was purposefully done. When we see design in a higher order and magnitude we have to wonder….

Humans

Irreducible complexities – the eye could not exist with less intricacy, so it could not have evolved.

Proteins and DNA – spells out precise assembly instructions for all the proteins from which our bodies are made and there is “communication” between the two making a symbiotic relationship necessary from the beginning.

We thought that some of the DNA was junk …not really junk.  Instead we find out that it is accomplishing even more than expected in a bidirectional, multilayered, and interleaved manner rather than simply linear.

DNA and what is underneath it — DNA is like the cover to a book — all the real information is inside it… and we are just coming to the point that we can read the title.

This is way too complex for chance.

The Environment

In its broadest terms, the environment is fine tuned for our existence —  that is earth and the universe.

  • The Earth: The tilt of the earth on its axis, rotational period of the day; the Earth’s gravity; the shininess atmosphere in terms of reflection and absorption of sunlight.
  • The moon is just the right distance away to affect the tides of the ocean in a way that stirs up the water enough to support plant life and deter stagnation; if it was closer, the tides would engulf too much land.
  • The distance that we are from the sun insures that we have water in all three states: solid, liquid, and gas – otherwise it would freeze or boil — again not allowing for human life to exist.
  • If the sun were redder or bluer photosynthesis would not work.
  • The sun’s magnetic field is perfectly aligned to protect us from cosmic rays

All the laws of nature have particular constants associated with them by which science used to define the universe:

  • the gravitational constant,
  • the speed of light,
  • the electric charge,
  • the mass of the electron,
  • Planck’s constant 6.62607004 × 10-34 joule seconds

At the moment there are 26 that describe our universe. Now here is the interesting thing: their values while arbitrary in appearance are all harmoniously laid out so that intelligent life can exist as we know it today.

The laws would still operate if the constants had different values, but the universe would not look or function like it does today — the resulting interactions would be radically different. There would be absolutely no way for mankind to subsist, for example:

If the gravitational constant which determines the strength of gravity:

  • was lower: stars would not shine
  • was higher, stars would burn too fast

All the universal constants are critical for intelligent life to flourish with only a one to five percent variable in the range of possible values for the combination of constants

So instead of

.000000000000000000000000000000000662607004

for Planck’s constant it would be

.00000000000000000000000000000000062947665

this is how finely tuned the universe is … without all of the seemingly “arbitrary” numbers existing exactly as they do…WE WOULD NOT EXIST.  So to say all of this is by intelligent design is a gross understatement — it is obviously by the design of a vastly superior being. (Psalms 139:14)

Fulfilled Prophecy

The prophecy in Daniel of the image represents the Gentile world ruling empires from the time of Babylon until the return of Christ.  Cyrus, the first leader of the Medo-Persia empire, is even called out by name well in advance (Isaiah 44:28, Isaiah 45:1). There is only one way that events over the course of 2500+ years could be orchestrated and fulfilled.

The historical record of Jesus is the best documented ancient work. For any one person to have brought about all that was written of Him is beyond astronomical in terms of odds. [Prophecies Fulfilled by Jesus]

And that is just the tip of the ice berg….

Answered Prayer

This one is for those that have tried it and God has responded beyond the bounds of time and chance.

For the Christian, God always answers His children within the confines of His plans.  Many times though, just as with our children, the answer is no.  What we want is not always good for us nor is it what we really need.

(James 5:16, John 15:7, 1 John 3:22)

A Way of Life that Works

Mankind has been trying every form of government and every type of philosophy APART from God for millennia — what has been the result? It has not been what most have wanted and sought — Peace! (Proverbs 14:12; 16:25)

“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death”

God wants us to live a happy, healthy, and full life.  His way has been proven time and time again that it is the only way that works when followed. (John 10:10; Matthew 4:4)

Conclusion

Science, for the most part, which observes the incredible complexity of creation, measures its foundational constants, and classifies its precisely calibrated order, willingly suspends their own intelligence to conclude that the universe happened randomly by dumb blind chance – odds by which the entire number of atoms in existence would pale in comparison.

Each discovery that they make should bring them closer to God but instead, as they look for that which cannot be seen by the naked eye they miss the invisible God plainly standing right in front of them.

So in this regard, it has to take faith to believe that science has the answers for the beginning of the universe and the forming of man. In fact it takes more faith to believe that there is no God than to believe that there is one.

In evolution there is the hope that evidence will be found somewhere out there, we just have not seen it yet. Of course this is the biblical definition of faith – “faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1).

The problem with this is that evolution has no mind or direction. The Intelligent Creator, Designer and LawGiver had/has purpose – evolution just happened indeterminately without a rhyme or reason and without consciousness.  Science cannot agree on how evolution or the creation of the universe happened, but they will avow with all certitude that they are right!

Science will continue to come up with guesses, even ones that contradict their own theories. They will continue to haphazardly adapt the story to fit a deviant line of reasoning. As each of their hypotheses come crashing down, they will come up with another argument that sounds plausible but is disingenuous at best because they misplace their faith:

Hebrews 4:2-3 For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.” …although the [creative] works [of God] were finished from the foundation of the world.

If their minds were open to belief in God then they could see:

Hebrews 11:3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.
