First it is necessary to know who the Germans are historically and for the first part of this we will be jumping around through history a bit to paint a picture of who the modern day Germans are.
It will by no means be exhaustive, but it should give you a working knowledge and basis to build on.
Who were the Assyrians?
Assyria ‘ashshûr ash-shoor’
Strongs:
Ashshur, the second son of Shem; also his descendants and the country occupied by them (that is, Assyria), its region and its empire: – Asshur, Assur, Assyria, Assyrians.
“Assyria” may refer to the man or the warrior, or to his descendants, and even to the entire country of Assyria. This is not peculiar, as the Bible uses other names in the same way, such as Israel or Esau.
In Genesis 10:21-22 we read that Asshur was a son of Shem and thus a grandson of Noah.
Making of a god
As so often in ancient times, gods were made out of famous people. The same applies to Asshur; over time the Assyrians worshiped him as the supreme god of the Assyrian pantheon.
Which is why we find the Teutons, ancestors of the German-speaking people, worshiped a pantheon of pagan gods. Their main god was Tieu, the god of war, sometimes known as Thor or Thur. This could involve the Assyrian god Assur
Wiki: Aesir is the term denoting a member of the principal groups of gods of the pantheon of Norse paganism. They include many of the major figures, such as Thor.
In ancient manuscripts Assur is often referred to as Athur or Thur and the country of Assyria repeatedly with “Athuria”.
Wiki: Athur, the Aramaic name for Assyria
Athura, an Assyrian province of the Persian empire
There are several other references equating Asshur and Athur
But what we are seeing is the etymology of names, the history of words, their origins, and how their form and meaning have changed over time and the necessity to put all the pieces and clues together to come up with who Assyrians were and are.
We will see a little more of this as we go along.
The Origin of the city of Trier
Another couple of the pieces of the puzzle have been left for us at Trier.
Legend has it, according to an inscription on a building there, that Trier existed 1300 years before the founding of Rome which would make it [~2050 BC] If the inscription is true, Trier was already in existence around the time of Noah.
The legend goes on to say that Trier was built 4000 years ago by Trebeta son of the Assyrian King Ninus.
The fact that Ninus was an Assyrian king, is confirmed in History
It is purported, that with the death of King Ninus, his son Trebeta emigrated with a large following of Assyrians to Europe from ancient Assyria
There are also pictures, I believe that were painted around the 17th century that substantiate this point
It is interesting that around 1183 BC when the city of Troy fell (which was a well-known Assyrian sanctuary according to Plato) that a soldier named Bravo fled Troy and migrated to Europe where he settled in the area around Trier. An old chronicle of these events stated this:
“Bravo was filled with joy there [in the area around Trier] to meet the descendants of the Assyrians, who had followed Trebeta [an Assyrian king] .”
Assyrian Migrations
Around 1000 BC the time of the “neo-Assyrian empire” began.
Ninevah
Jonah sent to them [820-780 BC]
They repented
Lasted for a while (150 years)
After the Fall of Nineveh
In 612 BC the capital of this empire, Nineveh, fell in present-day Iraq, into Babylonian and Median hands and was completely destroyed.
Some of the conquered Assyrians remained in their country, today’s Iraq. Their descendants also still live there.
Other Assyrians followed, at the time of the destruction of Nineveh, a leader named Assur Ubalit, who established a short-lived government in Haran. However, he was defeated in war in the year 609-608 [BC].
Still, other Assyrians migrated to the East, present-day Iran. Most Assyrians went westward after the fall of Nineveh, as Charles Pfeiffer makes clear in “Old Testament History”.
Sylax wrote around 550 BC, in his “Periplus,” that the coast of the Black Sea was called Assyria. According to Diodorus, Assyria was a large colony in northern Asia Minor and admittedly south of the Black Sea.
Pliny the Elder (23-79 AD) wrote in “Natural History”, Volume 4, Para. 12 on page 183, that in his time the “Assyriani” lived north of the Black Sea.
Taken together, the result of these statements is that most of the surviving Assyrians emigrated after the fall of Nineveh in the course of time over the Caucasus to Western Europe.
Assyria, an Indo-Germanic Tribe
It is accepted that the Germans came from the same area that we have already identified the Assyrians has having gone to:
Jerome who lived around 340 AD during the time of the great Indo-European migrations, in one of his letters quoted “Assur also is joined with them.” He was referring to Indo-Germanic tribes who invaded Western Europe.
Schmidt’s Classic dictionary states in the article “Germania” on page 361:
“There is no doubt that they [the Germans] immigrated to Europe, from the Caucasus and the countries along the Black and Caspian Sea.”
From this we see that the immigration of Assyria into Europe is in line with what is known historically of Germans migration into Europe. Since Assyria “also is joined with them,” as Jerome tells us, the Assyrians were part of the Indo-Germanic tribes that settled in Europe.
More ways to tell who they were:
Appearance of the Assyrian
It is interesting to visualize the original appearance of the Assyrians. When the Greeks wanted to differentiate the Assyrians from the darker Arameans, or Syrians, living in Mesopotamia, they called them “Leucosyri, i.e. “white” or “blonde”.
This is in line with Asshur and Assyria being of Semitic origin, in other words in the line of Shem as well as having physical characteristics of his descendants.
More Evidence
As mentioned, some Assyrians migrated during the fall of Nineveh to the east and settled among the Persians. Herodotus called these tribes of the Assyrians the “Germanii.”.
Descendants belonging to Asshur: the Almani, also called Halmani. The Romans called a Germanic tribe “allemanni” and still today, Germany is called in Spanish “Alemania” and in French “Allemagne.”
Assyrians are the Ancestors of Modern Day German-Speaking People
The idea, that the Assyrians are the ancestors of German tribes and peoples, was not unknown in the past. Authors from different backgrounds expressed their conviction in this regard:
In 1870, the British author E. Hines published a book in London with the title “Forty-seven Identifications of the British Nation with the Lost Ten Tribes.” It says on page 54:
“We have long held the Germans to be identical with the Assyrians; and shall be prepared, in due course, if no one in the meantime will take this matter in hand, to come forward ourselves with proofs.”
What we have seen here shows that both legends and documented history confirm that at least some modern German-speaking peoples, are descendants of the ancient Assyrians.
This knowledge is a necessary prerequisite for a correct understanding of the biblical prophecy about our immediate future.
From the Past to the Future
The second part of this now has to do with Assyria in Prophecy or more appropriately today Germany in Prophecy.
Now that we have identified modern day Assyria we can apply the prophecies regarding them more specifically.
Right now in history we are not really at odds with Germany.
In fact the Bible says that we will feel that we (Israel and UK specifically and the US) are actually in a position to ask help from Germany (Modern Day Assyria).
Reminder, for as we go along as you know:
“house of Israel” or “house of Jacob” refers to the U.S. and Great Britain and its commonwealth
“house of Judah” or the Jews = state of Israel
In Jeremiah 2:4, 8-9, 15, 18, 36, the futile attempt of these nations, to receive support from Assyria, is described.
Why God uses Germany
Jeremiah 2:4 Hear the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob and all the families of the house of Israel.
Jeremiah 2:8 The priests did not say, ‘Where is the LORD?’ And those who handle the law did not know Me; The rulers also transgressed against Me; The prophets prophesied by Baal, And walked after things that do not profit.
Jeremiah 2:9 “Therefore I will yet bring charges against you,” says the LORD, “And against your children’s children I will bring charges.
We see some of the reasons why this is happening
Jeremiah 2:13 “For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, And hewn themselves cisterns—broken cisterns that can hold no water.
After seeking their own ways, they look for help from other human powers, specifically Assyria
Jeremiah 2:15 The young lions roared at him [Israel], and growled; They made his land waste; His cities are burned, without inhabitant.
Jeremiah 2:17 Have you not brought this on yourself, In that you have forsaken the LORD your God When He led you in the way?
*Jeremiah 2:18 And now why take the road to Egypt, To drink the waters of Sihor? Or why take the road to Assyria, To drink the waters of the River?
Assyria Will Not Help
The prophet Hosea further describes the futile undertaking of modern Israelites and Jews,to obtain protection and help from the Assyrians
We read in Hosea 5:9-13:
Hosea 5:9 Ephraim [modern Great Britain] shall be desolate in the day of rebuke; Among the tribes of Israel I make known what is sure.
Hosea 5:10 “The princes of Judah are like those who remove a landmark[boundary]; I will pour out my wrath on them like water.
Hosea 5:11 Ephraim is oppressed and broken in judgment, Because [WHY?] he willingly walked by human precept.
Hosea 5:12 Therefore I will be to Ephraim like a moth, And to the house of Judah like rottenness.
Hosea 5:13 “When Ephraim saw his sickness, And Judah saw his wound, Then Ephraim went to Assyria And sent to King Jareb [fighter; one who is quarrelsome; the future king or leader over the German-speaking people and the United States of Europe] ]; Yet he cannot cure you, Nor heal you of your wound.
Hosea 5:14 For I will be like a lion to Ephraim, And like a young lion to the house of Judah. I, even I, will tear them and go away; I will take them away, and no one shall rescue.
This prophecy seems to indicate that Ephraim and Judah will feel comfortable asking Assyria [German-speaking people] for help, but it won’t come to pass. I would say that relations right now are at this point. Obviously it has not been that way in the times surrounding WW2. But then there is also the aspect of whether they can help. After WW2 they were busy rebuilding; more recently they reunited with East Germany which took considerable resources. And now they are somewhat preoccupied by the financial crisis in Europe. BUT what we are seeing and hearing is the development of a core Europe led by Germany. They are heading towards this 10 group conglomerate that the Bible has predicted will be the last resurrection of the Holy Roman Empire.
In the news, Germany has remained at the fore; now talking about putting together an army; while the UK continues to talk about a Brexit.
As the US Dollar and economy continue to go downhill our strength will dissipate and as the Bible prophesies we will actually ask Germany for help
Also note the state that the UK will be in and is increasing heading towards:
Hosea 7:8 “Ephraim has mixed himself among the peoples; Ephraim is a cake unturned.
Hosea 7:9 Aliens have devoured his strength, But he does not know it; Yes, gray hairs are here and there on him, Yet he does not know it.
Hosea 7:10 And the pride of Israel testifies to his face, But they do not return to the LORD their God, Nor seek Him for all this.
Hosea 7:11 “Ephraim also is like a silly dove, without sense— They call to Egypt, They go to Assyria.
Hosea 7:12 Wherever they go, I will spread My net on them [to make them captives]; I will bring them down like birds of the air; I will chastise them According to what their congregation has heard.
Do we see that the UK is already a long way down this path? For not pursuing God and His ways they will be held accountable. And instead the ones that they sought in vain to get help from will turn on them unexpectedly
Assyria will Wage War Against Israel AND Judah
War is prophesied, in it the Assyrians will fight against Israel and Judah.
The prophecies in the Book of Ezekiel to make clear that the initially peaceful and friendly relations between the modern House of Israel and the modern Assyrians will change to the opposite. Ezekiel 23: 5-7, 9-10, describes what shortly will happen:
Ezekiel 23:4 Their names: Oholah the elder and Oholibah her sister; They were Mine, And they bore sons and daughters. As for their names, Samaria is Oholah, and Jerusalem is Oholibah.
[that is Samaria, vs. 4, i.e. the whole house of Israel, whose capital had been in ancient Samaria]Ezekiel 23:5 “Oholah played the harlot even though she was Mine; And she lusted for her lovers, the neighboring Assyrians,
Ezekiel 23:6 Who were clothed in purple, Captains and rulers, All of them desirable young men, Horsemen riding on horses.
Ezekiel 23:7 Thus she committed her harlotry with them, All of them choice men of Assyria; And with all for whom she lusted, With all their idols, she defiled herself.
Ezekiel 23:8 She has never given up her harlotry brought from Egypt, For in her youth they had lain with her, Pressed her virgin bosom, And poured out their immorality upon her.
What is the effect of leaving God and going after other gods?
Ezekiel 23:9 “Therefore I have delivered her Into the hand of her lovers, Into the hand of the Assyrians, For whom she lusted.
Ezekiel 23:10 They uncovered her nakedness, Took away her sons and daughters, And slew her with the sword; She became a byword among women, For they had executed judgment on her.
But it won’t be just the modern house of Israel but also the state of Israel, the house of Judah
as we see in Isaiah 8: 7-8:
Isaiah 8:7 Now therefore, behold, the Lord brings up over them [Judah] The waters of the River, strong and mighty— The king of Assyria and all his glory; He will go up over all his channels And go over all his banks.
Isaiah 8:8 He will pass through Judah, He will overflow and pass over, He will reach up to the neck; And the stretching out of his wings Will fill the breadth of Your land, O Immanuel.
Enslavement and mass displacement will be the result. Assyria, which will invade the territories of the modern Israelites and Jews, will bring some of the prisoners into its country (as in the Second World War many of the people they subdued, they were brought to Germany as forced laborers). Other Israelitish and Jewish prisoners of war will be transported into a wide variety of countries. Isaiah 11:11-12, tells us more about this:
:11 It shall come to pass in that day That the Lord shall set His hand again the second time To recover the remnant of His people who are left, From Assyria and Egypt, From Pathros [either a part of Egypt, and/or India] and Cush [North Africa, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka and India], From Elam [Iran] and Shinar [that is the former Babylon, now Iraq], From Hamath [either a region in ancient Babylon, or a designation for Ham, whose descendants are now among the Egyptians, Arabs, Ethiopians, North Africans, the Palestinians and the Libyans] and the islands of the sea.”
:12 He will set up a banner for the nations, And will assemble the outcasts of Israel, And gather together the dispersed of Judah From the four corners of the earth….
Assyria will also Wage War Against Egypt
In part of the coming war, Assyria will not fight on the side of Egypt, but rather go to battle against Egypt. Like Israel and Judah will hope for the help of Assyria, they will also think they can obtain help from Egypt (see again Jeremiah 2:18). However, that hope will remain unfulfilled in both cases. Assyria will not allow Egypt to help Israel or Judah.
Isaiah 20:4 so shall the king of Assyria lead away the Egyptians as prisoners and the Ethiopians as captives, young and old, naked and barefoot, with their buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt.
Isaiah 20:5 Then they shall be afraid and ashamed of Ethiopia their expectation and Egypt their glory.
Isaiah 20:6 And the inhabitant of this territory will say in that day, ‘Surely such is our expectation, wherever we flee for help to be delivered from the king of Assyria; and how shall we escape?’ ”
After Assyria conquers Egypt and has incorporated their kingdom, it will deport some of the prisoners of war to Egypt and into other countries:
The prophet Hosea also describes where modern Israelites and Jews will be deported by the Assyrians in the next war:
“They [Israel, Hosea 9: 1] shall not dwell in the LORD’s land, But Ephraim shall return to Egypt [sin], And shall eat unclean things in Assyria….I drew them [Israel, Hosea 11: 1, in particular, Ephraim, vs. 3] with gentle cords, With bands of love, And I was to them as those who take the yoke from their neck. I stooped and fed them. “He shall not return to the land of Egypt; But the Assyrian shall be his king, Because they refused to repent….”“They shall walk after the LORD. He will roar like a lion. When He roars, Then His sons shall come trembling from the west ; They shall come trembling like a bird from Egypt [again note, it does not say the land of Egypt] , Like a dove from the land of Assyria. And I will let them dwell in their houses,” Says the LORD.” (Hosea 9:3; 11:4-5, 10-11)
Hosea 9:3 They [speaking of Israel :1] shall not dwell in the LORD’s land, But Ephraim shall return to Egypt [sin], And shall eat unclean things in Assyria.
Hosea 11:4 I drew them [speaking of Israel :1] with gentle cords, With bands of love, And I was to them as those who take the yoke from their neck. I stooped and fed them.
Hosea 11:5 “He shall not return to the land of Egypt; But the Assyrian [the German] shall be his king, Because they refused to repent.
Hosea 11:10 “They shall walk after the LORD. He will roar like a lion. When He roars, Then His sons shall come trembling from the west; [of Jerusalem]
[In the Hebrew, there is no term for “northwest.” Therefore, some passages talk about the land of captivity as being west of Jerusalem, while most other passages designate it as being north of Jerusalem. Taking all of these passages together, the reference is to a country “northwest” of Jerusalem. Germany is situated northwest of Jerusalem.]
Hosea 11:11 They shall come trembling like a bird from Egypt [again note, it does not say the land of Egypt] , Like a dove from the land of Assyria. And I will let them dwell in their houses,” Says the LORD.
Zechariah expounds on this in chapter 10
Zechariah 10:6 “I will strengthen the house of Judah, And I will save the house of Joseph. I will bring them back, Because I have mercy on them. They shall be as though I had not cast them aside; For I am the LORD their God, And I will hear them.
Zechariah 10:7 [In particular] Those of Ephraim …
Zechariah 10:9 “I will sow them among the peoples, And they shall remember Me in far countries; They shall live, together with their children, And they shall return.
Zechariah 10:10 I will also bring them back from the land of Egypt, And gather them from Assyria. I will bring them into the land of Gilead and Lebanon, Until no more room is found for them.
Assyria is not Alone in the Fighting
Assyria will not be alone in the next war against Israel and Judah. Rather, the modern Assyrians will be backed by many more nations. Back in Ezekiel 23:22-24 we read the following prophecy:
“Therefore, Oholibah [that is Jerusalem, if you recall from vs.4, the modern State of Israel], thus says the Lord GOD: ‘Behold, I will stir up your lovers against you, From whom you have alienated yourself, And I will bring them against you from every side:
Ezekiel 23:22 “Therefore, Oholibah, thus says the Lord GOD: ‘Behold, I will stir up your lovers against you, From whom you have alienated yourself, And I will bring them against you from every side:
Ezekiel 23:23 The Babylonians, All the Chaldeans, Pekod, Shoa, Koa, All the Assyrians with them, All of them desirable young men, Governors and rulers, Captains and men of renown, All of them riding on horses. [Maybe a reference to the coming Babylonian system]
Ezekiel 23:24 And they shall come against you With chariots, wagons, and war-horses, With a horde of people. They shall array against you Buckler, shield, and helmet all around. ‘I will delegate judgment to them, And they shall judge you according to their judgments.
In Psalm 83:4-8 a remarkable prophecy is found about a multilateral agreement of many nations, that will ally against Israel — apparently against both the modern descendants of the Houses of Israel as well as the Jews. We note, who is being mentioned here by name:
“They have said, “Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, That the name of Israel may be remembered no more.” For they have consulted together with one consent; They form a confederacy against You: The tents of Edom [Turkey] and the Ishmaelites [Saudi Arabia]; Moab [parts of Jordan, perhaps also Western-Iraq] and the Hagrites [perhaps Syrians]; Gebal [Lebanon], Ammon [Jordan], and Amalek [perhaps modern description for PLO]; Philistia [modern Palestinians from the Gaza Strip] with the inhabitants of Tyre [Babylonian system]; Assyria also has joined with them; They have helped the children of Lot [Jordan].”
Realization sets in: If God punishes, modern Israel will finally understand, that its true help can only come from God and not from any human powers or physical things. And so Israel will finally, after a time of the greatest calamity, follow God’s calling and gain true knowledge.
Hosea 14:2 Take words with you, And return to the LORD. Say to Him, “Take away all iniquity; Receive us graciously, For we will offer the sacrifices of our lips.
Hosea 14:3 Assyria shall not save us, We will not ride on horses, Nor will we say anymore to the work of our hands, ‘You are our gods.’ For in You the fatherless finds mercy.”
Hosea 14:4 “I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely, For My anger has turned away from him.
This is why God is doing this.
God will be using Assyria/Germany in order to execute his punishment on the House of Israel and on the House of Judah. It will be a punishment from God because we (the modern Israelites and Jews) have been a “faithless people,”.
Assyria Goes Too Far
Assyria, as they are apt to do, will go too far over the top. So God will then deal with their punishment.
Isaiah 10 tells us more about this: (Isaiah 10: 5-27).
:5 Woe to Assyria, the rod of My anger And the staff in whose hand is My indignation.
:6 I will send him against an ungodly nation [Israel and Judah], And against the people of My wrath I will give him charge, To seize the spoil, to take the prey, And to tread them down like the mire of the streets.
:7 Yet he does not mean so, Nor does his heart think so [ie, they do not see themselves as a tool of God to exercise righteous judgment]; But it is in his heart to destroy, And cut off not a few nations.
:8 For he says, ‘Are not my princes altogether kings?…
:10 As my hand has found the kingdoms of the idols…
:11 As I have done to Samaria [House of Israel] and her idols, Shall I not do also to Jerusalem [House of Judah] and her idols?'”
:12 Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Lord has performed all His work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, that He will say, “I will punish the fruit of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his haughty looks.”
:13 For he says: “By the strength of my hand I have done it, And by my wisdom, for I am prudent; Also I have removed the boundaries of the people, And have robbed their treasuries; So I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man….
:15 Shall the ax boast itself against him who chops with it?… Or shall the saw exalt itself against him who saws with it? As if a rod could wield itself against those who lift it up, Or as if a staff could lift up, as if it were not wood!
:16 Therefore the Lord, the Lord of hosts, Will send leanness among his fat ones; And under his glory He will kindle a burning Like the burning of a fire.
:17 So the Light of Israel will be for a fire, And his Holy One for a flame; It will burn and devour His thorns and his briers in one day.
:18 And it will consume the glory of his forest and of his fruitful field, Both soul and body; And they will be as when a sick man wastes away.
:19 Then the rest of the trees of his forest Will be so few in number That a child may write them.
:20 And it shall come to pass in that day That the remnant of Israel, And such as have escaped of the house of Jacob, Will never again depend on him who defeated them, But will depend on the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth….
:24 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD of hosts: “O My people, who dwell in Zion, do not be afraid of the Assyrian. He shall strike you with a rod and lift up his staff against you, in the manner of Egypt [ie, Assyria will enslave Israel and Judah, as had been the case in Egypt]….
:26 And the LORD of hosts will stir up a scourge for him [Assyria] like the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb [as the two princes of Midian fell in the war]; as His rod was on the sea, so will He lift it up in the manner of Egypt [as the army of Pharaoh perished in the flood].
:27 It shall come to pass in that day That his burden will be taken away from your shoulder, And his yoke from your neck” ….
Although God will punish Israel and Judah through Assyria, Assyria, which do not see themselves as God’s instrument, but believe they have done this all by itself. Assyria will by no means be “just” to modern Israel and Judah. Hence we read in Isaiah 52:4-5:
Isaiah 52:1 Awake, awake! Put on your strength, O Zion; Put on your beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city! For the uncircumcised and the unclean Shall no longer come to you.
Isaiah 52:2 Shake yourself from the dust, arise; Sit down, O Jerusalem! Loose yourself from the bonds of your neck, O captive daughter of Zion!
Isaiah 52:4 For thus says the Lord GOD: “My people went down at first Into Egypt to dwell there; Then the Assyrian oppressed them without cause. [do not see themselves as God’s instrument, but think they have done this “all by themselves” and they have no reason for this behavior: “without cause”]
Now continuing in this vein in :5
Isaiah 52:5 Now therefore, what have I here,” says the LORD, “That My people are taken away for nothing? Those who rule over them Make them wail [they will be harsh and unjust],” says the LORD, “And My name is blasphemed continually every day.
Isaiah 52:6 Therefore My people shall know My name; Therefore they shall know in that day That I am He who speaks: ‘Behold, it is I.’ ”
Because of this pride and typical Assyrian ruthlessness God will not let them go unpunished:
Isaiah 14:24 The LORD of hosts has sworn, saying, “Surely, as I have thought, so it shall come to pass, And as I have purposed, so it shall stand:
Isaiah 14:25 That I will break the Assyrian in My land, And on My mountains tread him underfoot. Then his [Assyria’s] yoke [of slavery, or captivity; seems obvious that this is the meaning] shall be removed from them, And his burden removed from their shoulders.
The king of Assyria will fall in the “Promised Land”. This is further illustrated in:
Isaiah 10:12 Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Lord has performed all His work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, that He will say, “I will punish the fruit of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his haughty looks.”
In Daniel 11 we come across another synonym for the king of Assyria as well as more on his ultimate demise in the Holy Land (Daniel 11: 40-42, 45).
Daniel 11:40 “At the time of the end the king of the South shall attack him; and the king of the North shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter the countries, overwhelm them, and pass through.
Daniel 11:41 He shall also enter the Glorious Land, and many countries shall be overthrown; but these shall escape from his hand: Edom, Moab, and the prominent people of Ammon.
Daniel 11:42 He shall stretch out his hand against the countries, and the land of Egypt shall not escape. [As we noted before]
Daniel 11:45 And he shall plant the tents of his palace between the seas and the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and no one will help him.
By comparing these verses we see that the king of Assyria and the king of the North are the same person.
The destruction of Assyria and its end-time leader the “king of Assyria” is also described in Isaiah 30:
Isaiah 30:30 The LORD will cause His glorious voice to be heard, And show the descent of His arm, With the indignation of His anger And the flame of a devouring fire, With scattering, tempest, and hailstones. [How will this happen?]
Isaiah 30:31 For through the voice of the LORD Assyria will be beaten down, As He strikes with the rod.
Isaiah 30:32 And in every place where the staff of punishment passes, Which the LORD lays on him, It will be with tambourines and harps; And in battles of brandishing He will fight with it.
Isaiah 30:33 For Tophet was established of old, Yes, for the king it is prepared. He has made it deep and large; Its pyre is fire with much wood; The breath of the LORD, like a stream of brimstone, Kindles it.
This passage describes the fate of the king of Assyria—he will be burned up in a place likened to a stream of brimstone, also referred to as “Tophet,” which literally means a “burning place,” or “a lake of fire.”
Christ will seize the “beast” and throw him alive “into the lake of fire burning with brimstone.” (Revelation 19: 20). If we compare this with the statements in Isaiah 30 it is apparent that the Beast, the political leader, is the king of Assyria. Thus the beast, the king of the North in Daniel 11, and the king of Assyria and King Jareb would all be identical to one another. This is obviously a significant key to putting all the end time events together and in the right order.
God emphasized again and again that it is He that will destroy, Assyria, and especially the king or ruler of Assyria. Obviously God could achieve this through human forces or armies. It seems, however, that God will intervene personally, directly and immediately with Assyria. Isaiah 31:4-9 states firmly:
Isaiah 31:4 For thus the LORD has spoken to me: “As a lion roars, And a young lion over his prey (When a multitude of shepherds is summoned against him, He will not be afraid of their voice Nor be disturbed by their noise), So the LORD of hosts will come down To fight for Mount Zion and for its hill.
Isaiah 31:5 Like birds flying about, So will the LORD of hosts defend Jerusalem. Defending, He will also deliver it; Passing over, He will preserve it.”
Isaiah 31:6 Return to Him against whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted.
Isaiah 31:7 For in that day every man shall throw away his idols of silver and his idols of gold—sin, which your own hands have made for yourselves.
Isaiah 31:8 “Then Assyria shall fall by a sword not of man, And a sword not of mankind shall devour him. But he shall flee from the sword, And his young men shall become forced labor.
Isaiah 31:9 He shall cross over to his stronghold for fear, And his princes shall be afraid of the banner,” Says the LORD, Whose fire is in Zion And whose furnace is in Jerusalem.
Zechariah 14 (several verses throughout) teaches similarly, that the Lord, Jesus Christ, will return to the Mount of Olives, to fight against those who have invaded Jerusalem.
Assyria will be destroyed in “one day” [or very quickly] with a plague that will wipe out the armies
Historically, German-born leaders have repeatedly sat on the “throne of the beast” (the political system) (Revelation 15:10), so that an end-time repetition to this extent would constitute nothing unusual.
Otto the Great (who was crowned in 962 by Pope John X of the emperor and deemed the founder of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation”);
Charles V of Habsburg and most recently
Adolf Hitler (who wanted to establish a 1,000-year Reich under an Aryan, Germanic master race).
It is now coming to pass before our eyes: We are seeing the signs of it every week now. They will rise again in the final resurrection of the Holy Roman Empire.
Conclusion: The Work of the Hand of God
The Good News is as you can imagine that after this is that everyone will have had enough of war Isaiah 2: 2-4 tells us:
Isaiah 2:2 Now it shall come to pass in the latter days That the mountain of the LORD’s house Shall be established on the top of the mountains, And shall be exalted above the hills; And all nations shall flow to it.
Isaiah 2:3 Many people shall come and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, To the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
Isaiah 2:4 He shall judge between the nations, And rebuke many people; They shall beat their swords into plowshares, And their spears into pruning hooks; Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, Neither shall they learn war anymore.
And so, ultimately, Assyria, Egypt and Israel will find their way to God. God’s judgment and corrections will finally achieve its purpose – that man will turn from his evil deeds and toward his Creator. Today, the peoples and nations, including Assyria, by and large are not ready for this – but the time will come:
Isaiah 19:21 Then the LORD will be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians will know the LORD in that day, and will make sacrifice and offering; yes, they will make a vow to the LORD and perform it.
Isaiah 19:22 And the LORD will strike Egypt, He will strike and heal it; they will return to the LORD, and He will be entreated by them and heal them.
Isaiah 19:23 In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian will come into Egypt and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians will serve with the Assyrians.
Isaiah 19:24 In that day Israel will be one of three with Egypt and Assyria—a blessing in the midst of the land,
Isaiah 19:25 whom the LORD of hosts shall bless, saying, “Blessed is Egypt My people, and Assyria the work of My hands, and Israel My inheritance.”
What an awesome plan that God is working out for the best of everyone involved. Let’s pray and get ready so that we are not caught unaware. One of the appealing aspects of prophecy is knowing what the future brings. Prophecy is not to show that we are right, but that God is. With this knowledge comes responsibility. Knowledge alone, without practical application is worthless. We are privileged to have access to what the Word of God says concerning the modern Assyrians, the Germans in the end-time. It is incumbent upon us to act accordingly and get this message out to the world.
