Trinity Subverts the Plan of God
This doctrine has served to propagate a false image of God
This does away with the purpose of who and what God really is and His purpose
As well as who and what man is and what is his purpose.
It takes the deeper questions of life that we can know and hides and obfuscates them
Catholic Church Split
History in Roman Empire, there was so much problem with this that they had to address it at the highest level
Council of Nicea classical Trinity was adopted. This is the 4th century
To be on track they had to adopt Trinity otherwise they were considered a cult
Definition
Before I get into it a little:
“The mind of man cannot fully understand the mystery of the Trinity. He who would try to understand the mystery fully will lose his mind. But he who would deny the Trinity will lose his soul”
Wiki The Christian doctrine of the Trinity (Latin: Trinitas, lit. ‘triad’, from trinus, “threefold”)[1] holds that God is three consubstantial persons[2] orhypostases[3]—the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit—as “one God in three Divine Persons”. The three persons are distinct, yet are one “substance, essence or nature” (homoousios).[4] In this context, a “nature” is what one is, whereas a “person” is whoone is.[5][6][7]
According to this central mystery of most Christian faiths, there is only one God in three persons: while distinct from one another in their relations of origin (as the Fourth Lateran Council declared, “it is the Father who generates, the Son who is begotten, and the Holy Spirit who proceeds”) and in their relations with one another, they are stated to be one in all else, co-equal, co-eternal and consubstantial, and each is God, whole and entire”.[8] Accordingly, the whole work of creation and grace is seen as a single operation common to all three divine persons, in which each shows forth what is proper to him in the Trinity, so that all things are “from the Father”, “through the Son” and “in the Holy Spirit”.[9]
Scripture contains neither the word Trinity,[11] nor an expressly formulated doctrine of the Trinity.
In the one God there are three eternal and essential distinctions yet no separation
Augustine introduced a slightly different concept of the Trinity. Rather than speaking about “one God in three persons,” he coined the phrase, “one God in three manifestations.”
3 in one person one substances in the west
3 distinctions in one being in the east
Essential Trinity v Economic Trinity
Essential these are the things necessary for His existence
Economic is how God has manifested Himself
Western church Rome and Eastern church Constantinople (Istanbul) are split on this issue
“one God in three persons,” is derived from paganism found among the Greeks
Some say it is incomprehensible, not realizing that for the Greeks that was the whole point.”
2 Corinthians 11:3 But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
What we say:
We believe that Father and Son have equal power but not authority and that the holy spirit is their power
But it is not God or a personage
Holy Spirit is not God
Nowhere in the Bible does it state that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are all God. Nowhere does it state that the Holy Spirit is a divine being. God’s spirit is presented as something, not someone
You will not find it
Jesus Christ had no one-on-one relationship with Holy Spirit
He prayed ONLY to the Father
The Insult
1 Corinthians 1:1 Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother,
1 Corinthians 1:2 To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all who in every place call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:
1 Corinthians 1:3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
The glaring omission is that Paul NEVER addresses the Holy Spirit. What a slap in the face if in fact the Holy Spirit was a co-equal with the Father and Son
The same is true of his other greetings in his other epistles (2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, Thessalonians, Timothy, Titus and Philemon)
The Spirit is not a person, it describes the Nature of God
John 4:24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
We are flesh, doesn’t make flesh a person
2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
The spirit naturally comes from both of Them
Galatians 4:6 And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!”
Philippians 1:19 For I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,
Romans 8:9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.
There is a process of how God the Father and Son work together in a harmonious unified manner.
From the Father
John 15:26 “But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.
John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
Acts 2:33 Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.
Next step, orderly fashion
Titus 3:5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,
Titus 3:6 whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior,
Through Christ
1 Corinthians 8:6 yet for us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live.
Ephesians 3:9 and to make all see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden in God who created all things through Jesus Christ;
We see this in other places throughout the Bible (Colossians 1: 16; Hebrews 1:1-2) but let’s look at just one more in John 1 where we will make a few other points
John 1:1
If the model of the Jesus Christ being essential to the Trinity then how does that work with Jesus Christ being on Earth
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:2 He was in the beginning with God.
John 1:3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
John 1:4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
- Preexistence
- Relationship With God
- Word was God
- Becomes flesh
- No mention of Holy Spirit
Jesus Christ was in the grave for three days and nights dead
Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
Galatians 1:1 Paul, an apostle (not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised Him from the dead),
Luke 23:46 And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, “Father, ‘INTO YOUR HANDS I COMMIT MY SPIRIT’ ” Having said this, He breathed His last.
John 5:25 Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live.
John 5:26 For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself,
Jesus Christ had life in Himself before hand and did not have the glory while on earth.
John 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.
He was not fully man and fully God.
Trinity is Interdependent
So here is how this dismantles the Trinity
This takes away from the necessary elements of being a Trinity
Mutual interpenetration and are inseparable (one and individual – triune)
If one dies they all die
If one suffers they all suffer
God resurrected Jesus Christ from the dead
Now that we have laid a foundation let’s look at some of the opposition
1 John 5:7-8
1 John 5:6 This is He who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth.
1 John 5:7 For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.
1 John 5:8 And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one.
is not in most authoritative works and was implemented at a late date into the Latin text
The bible must be interpreted in light of the bible. You take the clear and straightforward scriptures to understand the more difficult.
So if any comes to you with the another verse saying that it proves the Trinity then you can point them to all the evidence to the contrary and them explain it in the light of the nature of God and their power
Personification of the Holy Spirit
Definition: the attribution of a personal nature or human characteristics to something nonhuman
Of course this literary device is not a proof that the Holy Spirit is a person.
Example of Love
The bible personifies love
1 Corinthians 13:4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;
1 Corinthians 13:5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil;
1 Corinthians 13:6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;
1 Corinthians 13:7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Sin, wisdom, faith and many other things are personified throughout scripture but no one believes that they are persons
Example of Holy Spirit
Acts 16:6 Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia.
Acts 16:7 After they had come to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit did not permit them.
Substitute the word conscience. We wouldn’t think that is a person, but the problem comes in because many have the predisposition that the Holy Spirit is a person so this becomes proof to them.
Acts 20:22 And see, now I go bound in the spirit to Jerusalem, not knowing the things that will happen to me there,
Acts 20:23 except that the Holy Spirit testifies in every city, saying that chains and tribulations await me.
But notice how it becomes clearer in Acts 21 as we progress
Acts 21:4 And finding disciples, we stayed there seven days. They told Paul through the Spirit not to go up to Jerusalem.
And then finally
Acts 23:11 But the following night the Lord stood by him and said, “Be of good cheer, Paul; for as you have testified for Me in Jerusalem, so you must also bear witness at Rome.”
In the end we see once again that the scriptures are harmonious and that it was Christ by His power of the Holy Spirit, stirring the people to action.
Holy Spirit and Christ’s birth
Matthew 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.
He was conceived of the Holy Spirit
Matthew 1:20 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived [begotten] in her is of the Holy Spirit.
It is by this power that this happened
Luke 1:31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS.
Luke 1:32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.
Luke 1:33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”
Luke 1:34 Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?”
Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.
- Power
a. Luke 24:49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”
b. Acts 1:8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” -
Highest implies no equality among the three
-
Ephesians 4:6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
-
John 10:29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.
-
-
Not the son of the Holy Spirit but of God
-
(if it were a person then it would be the son of the Holy Spirit)
-
And Jesus Christ would have two fathers
-
John 1:14 … only begotten of the Father….
Gender of the Holy Spirit
Two things going against us as Americans
For the most part we are a nation of monoglots
And we do not use gender for our nouns
What we must understand is that the gender of a noun does not speak to the nature of a noun. It is ONLY a matter of grammar.
We refer to boats as she’s though we know it is an it. In German das boat; in Spanish el barco
It makes learning a language difficult especially when you try to reason it out.
In Greek, spirit is a neuter noun, so technically it should always be translated it and not he or she anyway. In the Hebrew, it is feminine. In German and Spanish, masculine
So you can see in English we have to base it on our use of grammar and more importantly a correct understanding of the spirit of God
Conclusion
Romans 8:29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.
It is a family
Romans 8:30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.
We will be glorified just as Christ was and become brothers with Him and co-inheritors of everything. What an incredible potential we have and a wonderful plan that God has put into place…No wonder Satan has so thoroughly pushed his false doctrine of a trinity on the world.
