Atonement – Being One with God

A Feast of God

Leviticus 23:2 “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘The feasts of the LORD, which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, these are My feasts.

Leviticus 23:26 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying:
Leviticus 23:27 “Also the tenth day of this seventh month shall be the Day of Atonement. It shall be a holy convocation for you; you shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire to the LORD.
Leviticus 23:28 And you shall do no work on that same day, for it is the Day of Atonement, to make atonement for you before the LORD your God.
Leviticus 23:29 For any person who is not afflicted in soul on that same day shall be cut off from his people.
Leviticus 23:30 And any person who does any work on that same day, that person I will destroy from among his people.
Leviticus 23:31 You shall do no manner of work; it shall be a statute forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
Leviticus 23:32 It shall be to you a sabbath of solemn rest, and you shall afflict your souls; on the ninth day of the month at evening, from evening to evening, you shall celebrate your sabbath.”

Some want to say that it is done away. Just at face value, why wouldn’t you keep these days vs holidays.

Beginning of reconciliation for the world; day of coverings; jubilee; and of course the integral binding of Satan

Why? Because most do not understand the current ruler of the world is….

Satan – the Current God of this World

The next Holy Day that we observe is that Day of Atonement. A time that represents becoming one with God. This is greatly facilitated by the removal of the god of this world.

2 Corinthians 4:3 But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing,
2 Corinthians 4:4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe….

Most do not even recognize that this is the god that they are and have been following

Ephesians 6:11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Ephesians 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Ephesians 2:2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience,
Ephesians 2:3 among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.

Revelation 2:13 “I know your works, and where you dwell, where Satan’s throne is. And you hold fast to My name, and did not deny My faith even in the days in which Antipas was My faithful martyr, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells.

Not only does he live here but it is his dominion for now

Matthew 4:8 Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.
Matthew 4:9 And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.”

They were his kingdoms to give – Jesus did not deny that

Satan – Deceiver, Divider, and Destroyer

While in charge…there is no real fight going on for the souls of the world! But nonetheless, Satan is alive and very busy.

Deception

Revelation 12:9 So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

1 John 5:19 We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.

Divide

So, as you can imagine, he started as soon as he could, and that was with the first man and woman, Adam and Eve.

Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more cunning [as we are coming to see] than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”
Genesis 3:2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden;
Genesis 3:3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ”
Genesis 3:4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. [a lie] Genesis 3:5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” [appeals to her vanity] Genesis 3:6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.

Matthew 16:21 From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.
Matthew 16:22 Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!”
Matthew 16:23 But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”

In doing this Satan was able to affect the relationship that Adam and Eve could have had with God. Instead they had to leave the Garden of Eden and be subjugated to a different way of life … one that would take them away from God.

Destroyer

John 8:44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.

1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

This same Satan has continued in the same vein with all of Mankind and is trying to do the same thing to us today.

This Day Pictures His Being Put Away

So in order to bring peace to this earth Satan will have to be removed from his power over this earth

Revelation 20:1 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.
Revelation 20:2 He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years;
Revelation 20:3 and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while.

Revelation 18:1 After these things I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was illuminated with his glory.
Revelation 18:2 And he cried mightily with a loud voice, saying, “Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit….

No longer will this powerfully divisive element be in the world to affect it. Now, mankind can begin it’s relationship with God. There will no longer be 1000 philosophies and religions. No more man made attempts at the the truth through science (ie evolution).

Not only will Satan not be in the way

God will Begin a New Relationship with Mankind

Jeremiah 31:31 “Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah—
Jeremiah 31:32 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the LORD.
Jeremiah 31:33 But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

This is a function of the holy spirit. This wonderful time is still yet in the future and it is for those that do not have a relationship now.

What about us now since we have God’s holy spirit?

As Christians We are to have this Relationship with God Now

Jesus was One with God while on Earth

John 10:22 Now it was the Feast of Dedication in Jerusalem, and it was winter.
John 10:23 And Jesus walked in the temple, in Solomon’s porch.
John 10:24 Then the Jews surrounded Him and said to Him, “How long do You keep us in doubt? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.”
John 10:25 Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father’s name, they bear witness of Me.
John 10:26 But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you.
John 10:27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.
John 10:28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.
John 10:29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.
John 10:30 I and My Father are one.”

Jesus, while on Earth in human form, was saying that He and the Father are ONE – present tense.

John 10:31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone Him.

John 10:32 Jesus answered them, “Many good works I have shown you from My Father. For which of those works do you stone Me?”
John 10:33 The Jews answered Him, saying, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God.”

John 10:34 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I SAID, “YOU ARE GODS” ‘?

John 10:35 If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken),
John 10:36 do you say of Him whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’?
John 10:37 If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me;
John 10:38 but if I do, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, that you may know and believe that the Father is in Me, and I in Him.”

We are to follow the example:

We are to be One with God Now

John 17:11 Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are.

While we are “in the world” we are to be ONE as They are ONE

We get a little more clarification and understanding in:

John 17:21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.
John 17:22 And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:
John 17:23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.

How Do We Go About It?

John 5:17 But Jesus answered them, “My Father has been working until now, and I have been working.”
John 5:18 Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.
John 5:19 Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.
John 5:20 For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel.

John 5:30 I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.

By the Power of God

1 John 2:24 Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.
1 John 2:25 And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life.
1 John 2:26 These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you.
1 John 2:27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.
1 John 2:28 And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.
1 John 2:29 If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him.

1 Corinthians 6:16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “THE TWO,” He says, “SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH.”
1 Corinthians 6:17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.

By Keeping His Word

1 John 2:1 My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
1 John 2:2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.

Atonement for our sins – making everything that we are going to talk about today possible

1 John 2:3 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.
1 John 2:4 He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
1 John 2:5 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him.
1 John 2:6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.

John 14:15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments.
John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—
John 14:17 the Spirit of truth, which the world cannot receive, because it neither sees it nor knows it; but you know it, for it dwells with you and will be in you.
John 14:18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
John 14:19 “A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also.
John 14:20 At that day you will know that am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.

John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, which the Father will send in My name, it will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

Living By His Word

Acting righteously

1 John 3:5 And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin.
1 John 3:6 Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.

Whoever abides in Him does not sin [won’t continue sinning willfully as they have done in the past; they won’t practice sinning any more]. Whoever [does this] sins [breaks the laws and commands of God] has neither seen Him nor known Him.

1 John 3:7 Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous.

[to be like God, which we are striving for, we have to be righteous]

What is righteousness? Psalm 119:172 My tongue shall speak of Your word, For all Your commandments are righteousness.

Romans 7:12 Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good.
Romans 7:14 For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin.

1 John 3:8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.

He has done this for all mankind eventually, but more importantly He has done it for us now. He has given us the power to avoid the devil and have a shared life with Him and the Father.

1 John 3:9 Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.
1 John 3:10 In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.

John goes back to distinguishing between the works of God and the Devil. If you do not keep the law and the commandments as we just read you are not of God.

Love One Another

1 John 3:11 For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another,

John 13:34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
John 13:35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

How do we expect all of us to be One with God if we are not getting along with each other?

Matthew 5:23 Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you,
Matthew 5:24 leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.

1 John 3:12 not as Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil and his brother’s righteous.

John continues to address this subject of the love that we are to have for our brother and how it defines whether we are of God or of the god of this world, Satan. Cain, obviously, did not exemplify the love for his brother; rather his works were those of his influencer, the Devil (John 8:44) and was manifest by his actions of hate towards his brother, culminating in the killing of Abel.

1 John 3:13 Do not marvel, my brethren, if the world hates you.

Because we come from two different worlds so to speak, this can be seen and taken as a badge of honor – if it is for the right reason.

Romans 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God. [An enemy toward God and the things of God – Because they do not have God abiding in them]

1 John 3:14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death.

We know that we have passed from death to life, from the devil’s world to abiding in God because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in the second death if you do not repent and change your ways he is saying.

1 John 3:15 Whoever hates his brother [can mean brother in the most general term (adelphos can be understood literally or figuratively)] is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. (John 8:44 again)

If we continue in this way, we will not a part of the Kingdom of God.

A Life of Sacrifice

1 John 3:16 By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

Following the example of Jesus:

1 Peter 2:19 For this is commendable, if because of conscience toward God one endures grief, suffering wrongfully.
1 Peter 2:20 For what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God.

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

1 John 3:17 But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?
1 John 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

1 John 3:21 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God.
1 John 3:22 And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.

1 John 5:14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

Matthew 6:10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.

1 John 3:23 And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.

1 John 3:24 Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.

1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.
1 John 4:8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

This means that everything that flows comes from Him or out of Him has its basis in LOVE that would include He says and does; His Law and His actions.

Matthew 22:36-40 Summary of the Law and Ten Commandments.

In order to dwell with God and have fellowship with Him, we need to be on the same page.

1 John 4:9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.
1 John 4:10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

He showed love to us, first, in giving His son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins. By doing this He made the way possible for us to LOVE as He loves by the power of the holy spirit in us. We are to be of like mind. If we are to walk with God we need to be in agreement – living and acting in the same way.

1 John 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
1 John 4:12 No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us.
1 John 4:13 By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit.

Loving our brother, keeping the commandments, having fellowship with God.

Confesses that Jesus is the Son of God

1 John 4:14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world.
1 John 4:15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.

Now we see it there is more to it than just confessing that Jesus came in the flesh. Now John is saying that we have profess, give our assent to; concede; and even has the connotation of covenant that Jesus is the Son of God; So what he is really saying is that whoever says and believes that Christ did and accomplished everything that He did indeed do.

1 John 4:16 And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Have faith in

1 John 4:17 Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.

Conclusion

What an incredible understanding we have been given by God with the meaning of this holy day and the plan of salvation for mankind as a whole.

But even more importantly for us today is the fact that we have been given the means and instructions to have a deep rewarding meaningful relationship with God right now – today!

Extra:

Romans 12:4 For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function,
Romans 12:5 so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.

Many can be one and yet individual

Galatians 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

We are not a trinity in Christ nor do we come one and lose our individuality but rather we become ONE with the Father and Son in the way that they are ONE and have been ONE for eternity – they are one in UNITY!

1 Corinthians 12:12 For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ.
1 Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free [plural]—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.

All separate and individual yet ONE

1 Corinthians 12:27 Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.

Ephesians 5:30 For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones.
Ephesians 5:31 “FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH.”
Ephesians 5:32 This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

Philippians 2:2 fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,

This is how we are ONE with God … by His spirit in us

But we are to be unified as ONE by our spirit, unity, love and etc just as God is ONE in purpose and mind and will.
